Wearing your sound processor for prolonged periods every day exposes it to perspiration and natural oils. What can you do to look after your sound processor and maximize its performance while helping lengthen its life? Use your sound processor’s drying unit. It also acts as a dehumidifier, protecting your sound processor from the damaging effects of moisture. Daily cleaning and dehumidifying can help to lengthen your processor’s life span and decrease the need for repairs. Make sure you use your drying unit daily to dehumidify your sound processor – don’t just leave it in its packaging!

How to get started

  • There are different types of dehumidifiers but, in general, they are either electronic or non-electronic. Depending on your CochlearSound Processor model, your processor may be compatible with one or the other – or both.
  • Don’t use just any dehumidifier or you risk damaging your sound processor. Cochlear makes sure to note sound processor compatibility so that you can find the most suitable option to keep your sound processor dry, safe and in good condition.
  • Always turn your processor OFF before placing it inside any dehumidifier overnight.

Here’s a guide to available dehumidifiers you can use with your Cochlear products:

Electronic: Breeze By Dry & Store

Electronic: Breeze By Dry & Store. Cochlear implant maintenance

Compatible with: Nucleus® and Baha® sound processors (except the Nucleus Kanso® 2 Sound Processor).

How to use it

  • The Breeze by Dry & Store is a drying unit that gently circulates warm, dry air around your Nucleus or Baha sound processor.
  • Use the Breeze kit with a disposable Dry-Brik desiccant. The desiccant lowers the humidity and captures the moisture released during the drying cycle.
  • Breeze’s larger size makes it ideal for bilateral recipients; you can place two sound processors in the unit.
  • If you are using disposable batteries, store the processor fully assembled. For optimal drying effect, store your sound processor fully assembled for eight hours.
  • If you are using a rechargeable battery, remove the battery module and recharge if necessary. Leave the coil attached to the processing unit and store in the Breeze kit.
  • Remember to replace the moisture absorbing Dry-Brik in your Breeze kit every two months. Write the date you started using it on the indicator on the top side of the brick to keep track.
