G’day! It’s week 4 of our international adventure. Earlier this week my sister and I explored Melbourne, which is a beautiful and vibrant place. We visited a colony of native penguins, walked through the city, and drank amazing coffee.

A few days ago we packed our bags and took an overnight train to Sydney. When we arrived 12 hours later, we were exhausted but excited to explore the largest city in Australia.

This trip has taken us to some truly incredible places, and I’ve loved getting to see so many different sights. But along with the excitement and adventure, I’ve found myself constantly checking to make sure I have my Cochlear™ Baha® 5 Sound Processor with me at all times. When we’re moving from city to city, it’s hard to keep track of everything in one backpack. The last thing I want to lose is my sound processor.

Lost Sound Processor!

That’s why I panicked earlier this week when I went to put on my processor and couldn’t find it. I normally leave it in its case at night, so when it wasn’t there, I was worried. Did I misplace it? Did it fall off? Where did I last have it?

I tried to retrace my steps, but that didn’t work. Next I tried scanning our small studio apartment from one end to the other, to no avail.

Baha® 5 Smart App to My Rescue!

Suddenly, I remembered my not-so-secret weapon: the Baha® 5 Smart App. One of the app’s coolest features is the ability to locate your processor if you ever lose or misplace it.

I opened the app and because my sound processor was connected to my phone via Bluetooth®, I was able to see that my processor was on and was somewhere near me. The app had a meter that told me when I was getting closer to my processor. It felt like I was playing hide-and-seek and someone was telling me if I was getting “colder” or “warmer.”

As I approached the kitchen, the meter told me I was getting closer. Once in the kitchen, the meter stayed at the top and so I began searching through every cabinet and drawer, looking for my processor.

Found It!

Finally, I opened one of the top cabinets and there was my processor! It was completely fine. I was filled with relief that it was unharmed.

When my sister returned to the apartment, I asked her why my processor had been sitting in the top cabinet. She remembered that it had been sitting on the kitchen counter earlier, and she had wanted to use the space for cooking so she set it up high so it wouldn’t get wet or damaged.

I was so grateful that the Baha® 5 Smart App helped me locate my lost sound processor!

If you’re like me, you may wonder what would happen if my processor hadn’t been on, or if the battery had died. The good news is, the app has an option for that, too. If your processor is off when you tap on “Locate Device,” the app will open a map and show you the last place your processor was connected to your phone.

Hopefully I won’t misplace my processor like this again, but I know that if I do, I have resources to help me find it. With the Baha® 5 Smart App, I can travel with peace of mind.

That’s all for now! Check back next week as I share tips for listening to music and switching between sound programs to maximize your hearing experience while travelling.
