Why might I want to change my processor settings?

Every day you’re experiencing new sounds and adjustments to your listening experience. As you move through your day, Nucleus Nexa Sound Processors can sense and respond to changes in your environment, automatically adjusting your listening settings so you can hear more clearly.1234

There may be times, however, when you want the ability to make further adjustments yourself.

How can I change my listening settings easily?

The Nucleus Smart App5 is your go-to tool for managing your sound processor’s settings, checking the status of your device, locating it if it goes missing, and accessing a range of services and features. And the great news is, by having it downloaded on your smartphone, you’ll have it with you when you’re on the go. The first step is to download the Nucleus Smart App from the Apple App Store®6 or Google Play®7

Next, pair your sound processor with the app by following the step-by-step instructions provided for both Apple® and Android™ devices. You can also find some of our how-to videos to help you pair your devices.

What settings can I control through the app?

  • Adjust volume and more: If your clinician has enabled features such as volume control, bass and treble adjustments, tap ‘Volume’ on the app’s screen, then select ‘More’ to find ‘Volume Settings’.
  • Change programs: If your hearing health professional has created different programs for you, you can switch to a different one by clicking on the ‘Program’ section.
  • ForwardFocus8: When you want to focus on face-to-face conversations, ForwardFocus reduces the distracting background noise automatically, or it can be turned on or off in the ‘Program’ section.
  • Streamed audio volume: When you’re direct streaming audio to your sound processor from your compatible9
smartphone or wireless accessory, you can adjust the volume of streamed audio by tapping ‘Audio Sources’, selecting your desired audio source, and then adjusting the volume as needed.
  • Access and update contact details: Keep your information up to date.

What if I’m not tech savvy?

Good news! The app is designed with simplicity in mind, guided by feedback from individuals just like you. That means you don’t need to be a computer whiz to use it.

Q: What else can I do with the Nucleus Smart App?

A: Quite a bit!

  • Keep an eye on the battery status of your sound processor, find your sound processor if it’s misplaced, and change your hearing settings right from your smartphone or Apple Watch®.
  • From time to time, Cochlear will release technology updates, which we call firmware updates. You can update your Nucleus Nexa System directly through the app, which can help the performance and connectivity of your sound processor.
  • The Hearing Tracker is another feature available in the Nucleus Smart App. It allows for direct access to important information within your listening environment that can help you and your clinician better understand your hearing needs, troubleshoot and make needed adjustments to optimize your hearing experience.
  • With your Nucleus Nexa System, you can also access convenient, quality hearing care without a trip to the clinic using Remote Care. It offers you the ability to complete hearing reviews through the app, as well as have video appointments with your hearing health professional. Learn more about Remote Care.

Remember, adapting to your cochlear implant is a process, one that may require patience and persistence. Soon, you’ll hopefully find the Nucleus Smart App an effective tool that helps you make the most of your hearing.
