Controlling both devices

“If I had one app to control both, I’d be able to get more control out of how I use my hearing and adjust all the settings a lot more and make the most out of my processor,” says 29-year-old Bec, who uses a Cochlear Nucleus® 8 Sound Processor on one ear and a ReSound hearing aid on the other (which is called bimodal).

“If I’m out and about, I have to stop what I’m doing for 30 seconds to adjust both ears before being able to continue the conversation, which just isn’t practical,” says Bec, who until now has had to use a separate app for each device.

For bimodal recipients like Bec, that’s now a thing of the past. A new update to the Nucleus Smart App1 adds bimodal control, for recipients located in the United States, with a compatible ReSound hearing aid2 and a Nucleus 8, Nucleus 7 or Kanso® 2 Sound Processor. It means you can use the Nucleus Smart App to quickly adjust both your hearing aid and sound processor settings to help you achieve your best possible hearing.

Whether it’s changing programs or adjusting volume, you can fine-tune both devices at the same time until you have selected the settings that work best for your listening environment.

Bec, 29 has found using a ReSound hearing aid on one ear and a Cochlear device on the other has helped her “get the best of both worlds”.

“I chose a ReSound hearing aid because it meant that I could stream to both my ears from my phone, which means that I can take phone calls, I can listen to music and podcasts and hear it in both ears with really good clarity,” she says.

“There are some things that I can hear better with my Cochlear [sound processor] and some things that I can hear better with my hearing aid. And so I feel like I’m getting a bit of both and it’s a better situation,” she says.
