Expert tips from our audiologists for your morning and evening routine

Let’s look at how getting set up and introducing some new routines can help you get the best start for each day. With your sound processor, you also received a Cochlear Home Charger which has everything you need to store, charge and remove any moisture from your Cochlear Nucleus Kanso 3 Nexa Sound Processor.

Get into a routine

Start by setting up a dedicated space and make it your sound processor’s home base where you keep your home charger and smartphone charger. Having everything in one place will keep your end-of-day routine simple, no matter how tired you are.

Every morning:

  • Start each morning by putting on your sound processor.
  • Pack spare batteries for your Nucleus Nexa System in your bag or vehicle in case you ever need them.1
If you don’t have one, they are available for purchase from the online Cochlear Store.
  • Remember to keep your portable charger battery recharged.
  • Make sure your smartphone2 and your sound processor are paired.
  • You will likely start to use compatible3 wireless accessories or retention devices with your sound processor (more about these to come in future content).
  • Pack these with your portable charger.

Every night:

  • Place a note or use your calendar or set an alert on your phone to remind you to charge your sound processor every night. Find a system that works for you.
  • When you take off your sound processor before bed, wipe it down with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Place it in its charger overnight. It also works to remove any moisture that your device may have been exposed to during the day, which is important for ongoing care and performance.
  • Charge your smartphone so everything is ready for the next day.
  • If you know that you will be out and about for an extended period the next day, make sure your portable charger is fully charged and ready.

“Remember, it’s OK if things don’t go according to plan every day. Forgetting to charge your batteries or misplacing your charger are just parts of the learning curve. Be patient and gentle with yourself as you adapt to these new routines.” – Heather O, clinical audiologist at Cochlear

  1. The described feature and benefit are available for recipients with a Nucleus Nexa Implant only. Battery life varies for every user, according to the age of the battery, the programs used each day, your implant type, the thickness of skin covering your implant, and the size and type of battery used. Streaming from compatible devices, True Wireless devices or FM may decrease sound processor battery life depending on how often and for how long streaming is engaged. For Nucleus 8 Nexa and Kanso 3 Nexa sound processors, a full day of battery life is defined as 16 hours.
