Expert tips from our audiologists for your evening and morning routine

Let’s look at how getting set up and introducing some new routines can help you get the best start for each day. With your sound processor, you also received a kit which has all that you need to store your device and charge batteries, including your dry kit.

Get into a routine

Start by setting up a dedicated space and make it your sound processor’s home base where you keep your dry kit, battery chargers and compatible smartphone charger. Having everything in one place will keep your daily routine simple and easy.

Every morning:

  • Start each day by connecting to a fully charged battery and putting on your sound processor.
  • Pack spare batteries for your Cochlear Nucleus Nexa System in your bag or vehicle in case you ever need them.1
  • You will likely start to use compatible2 wireless devices with your sound processor (more about these to come in future content). Make sure these are fully charged and pack them with your spare batteries, along with any retention devices you may use.

Every night

  • When you take off your sound processor before bed, wipe it down with a clean and dry cloth.
  • Place it in the dry kit. Your dry kit will remove any moisture that your device may have been exposed to during the day, which is important for ongoing care and performance.
  • Charge your batteries and any rechargeable accessories, along with your smartphone, so everything is ready for the next day.You may find it helpful to place a note on your calendar or set an alert on your phone to remind you to charge up.

“Remember, it’s OK if things don’t go according to plan every day. Forgetting to charge your batteries or misplacing your charger are just part of the learning curve. Be patient and gentle with yourself as you adapt to these new routines.” – Heather O, Clinical audiologist at Cochlear

  1. The described feature and benefit are available for recipients with a Nucleus Nexa Implant only. Battery life varies for every user, according to the age of the battery, the programs used each day, your implant type, the thickness of skin covering your implant, and the size and type of battery used. Streaming from compatible devices, True Wireless devices or FM may decrease sound processor battery life depending on how often and for how long streaming is engaged. For Nucleus 8 Nexa and Kanso 3 Nexa sound processors, a full day of battery life is defined as 16 hours.
