To build confidence with your Cochlear™ Nucleus® 8 Nexa™ Sound Processor, follow these steps below to create a comfortable new routine for wearing and changing batteries.
One of the most effective ways to transition any new change in life is by establishing routines. This helps you grow more familiar with your technology and how to start each day. That’s why we’re focusing on two goals today.
Try these two simple steps to help you feel more confident with your device and help you hear your best:
1. Get comfortable placing your sound processor on your head
- Use a mirror to help practice where to place your sound processor.
- Make sure your sound processor is powered on. Place it over your ear, letting the coil dangle.
- The number on the coil magnet should sit against your head. Move the coil around above your ear until the magnet connects to the implant, placing it down on your implant. You’ll know when this happens because sound stimulation will start to occur!
- Check that the cable is not tangled. If you can’t see for yourself, ask a friend, or loved one to check the cable for you.
Hopefully, after practicing this in front of the mirror, it will become something you can do comfortably.
If you have already mastered these daily tasks, congratulations! This is a milestone worth recognizing. Take a moment to reflect on how you’ve progressed since you first decided to go ahead with getting a cochlear implant. Everyone will experience their hearing journey differently. Each success is worth celebrating.
2. Practice changing your batteries
While Cochlear Nucleus Nexa Sound Processors are designed to be easy to use, understanding batteries and components can take a little time.
Dedicate time today or tomorrow, when you’re not rushed, to practice removing and replacing the battery of your sound processor. It’s okay if it is a little challenging initially. It should start to feel easier with a few rounds of practice.
