For most children, splashing at the beach, swimming in a pool or playing in the bath are part of everyday life and something they love to do. Read below for tips on water activities for a child with a cochlear implant.

While Cochlear™ Nucleus® Nexa™ sound processors are splash-proof, dust-proof and water resistant, the Aqua+ silicone sleeve provides added protection in salt-water and rushing water,  keeping your child’s sound processor water-safe while helping them to hear when in the water.1

Here are three benefits of the Aqua+ for your child to enjoy the water while protecting their sound processors:

1. Multiple use

You can reuse a single Aqua+ silicone sleeve up to 50 times. That’s a lot of trips to the beach for you and your child.

 2. Listen while in the pool

By using the Cochlear Wireless Mini Microphone 2+, your child can stream your voice—or their swimming coach’s voice—to their sound processor so they can hear instructions clearly while in the pool with their head above the water. The coach or instructor simply attaches the microphone to their shirt and their voice is streamed directly to your child’s sound processor.

A parent’s tip

Even when I’m not swimming with her, I can still communicate with my daughter from a distance.” – Mother of Celline, who has a cochlear implant

3. Help your child enjoy more than swimming

A sound processor can be submerged in up to three meters of water for two hours with the Aqua+, so your child can enjoy sports like snorkeling and surfing as well as swimming in salt-water pools. Be sure to secure the Aqua+ and the sound processor appropriately for the activity.

I enjoy being able to hear people cheering, other swimmers encouraging me and having that feeling of safety. The Aqua+ allows me to hear boats, jet skis and people while I swim.” – Anna, who has a cochlear implant
