Did you know that May is Better Hearing Month? This is a special month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of hearing health. With over 50 million Americans experiencing some degree of hearing loss1, it’s critical to understand how to protect your hearing. This month, join us in promoting better hearing health practices and resources. Below are six ways to participate in Better Hearing Month and take control of your hearing health:

  1. Protect your hearing

Reduce the time and level of exposure to loud sounds by using ear protection in loud environments such as concerts, sporting events, racetrack, or noisy hobbies. Visit Deafness and hearing loss: Safe listening for more.

  1. Use your devices wisely

Use the built-in safe listening feature on your devices and use noise cancelling headphones to reduce the volume you need to listen.

  1. Know your hearing number

Your hearing can change over time, and it is never too early to start monitoring your hearing health. Take charge by visiting hearingnumber.org or by downloading the Hearing Number app and taking a quick 10-minute hearing test.

  1. Visit a hearing care professional

If you are over age 50 and would like to be hearing better, see an ENT or audiologist to get your hearing checked.

  1. Utilize the resources available

Learn more about hearing loss through Hearing Loss Association of America.

Spread the word about your Hearing Number and encourage friends and loved ones to test their hearing. Use the #BetterHearingMonth hashtag!
